My Story

Thanks for stopping by!

My blog is where I journal the projects that make our house a home, and how I make extra money by making old furniture new again. I throw in the occasional life-related post because I’m juggling a lot just like everyone else!

I absolutely love DIY. As a kid, I’d tag along with Dad on weekends as he fixed up the house in order to spend one-on-one time with him. One of my earliest memories is of him sanding and painting something, and I vividly remember thinking, “I can’t wait till I can sand and paint by myself.” I clean up okay, but I’m not a girly girl. I don’t like shopping for clothes; I’d rather shop for paint and tools and stuff for the house. My ideal day is to be in something that already has paint on it to match the paint in my hair – something my friends who see me everyday have come to accept as normal. I love being Kevin’s wife and a mama to our 3 little women. My life, although far from perfect,  is full of things I enjoy and people I love being with. I read each and every comment, and welcome yours,

  1. I am completely inspired by your projects! Hopping over from Katie's Impatiently Praying for Patience. Your work is beautiful and thank you for revealing your secrets! Your tutorials are really informative. I find that refinishing furniture can be intimidating.

  2. Ditto Amber on the intimidating refinishing furniture. I jumped into a *huge* project for a beginner (five tables at once! Two kitchen, one coffee, and two side) and things aren't going as smoothly as I wanted. The stains will likely be covered by paint very soon.

Thank you for sharing your projects!

  3. I LOVE your blog and have recently made over an antique ottoman using the denatured alcohol…worked like a charm! I would love to send you a picture of an antique sewing machine table for your advice, not sure if you are up for advice giving but I am torn about leaving it natural wood or painting…Thanks!

  4. just clicked your blog, loving it so far!! right up my alley, can't wait to ck out all your old-new furniture designs etc! you are amazing what all can be done and how gorgeous things look…I'll be cking here everyday I'm sure, thanks!!!

  10. I have a question: On Pinterst they show a room with white furniture that has slipcovers on the couch, chair and ottoman. Is it your house? The link takes me to your web site but I don’t see the picture here. If it is, what are your thoughts on the slip covers…where did you get them. etc… I am redoing on a dime my living room and am thinking about slip covers…UGH! Not sure what to do. WOuld love your input!

    Love your house!

  11. This specific article My Story, possesses really wonderful advice and I realized just what I was researching for.

    Thank you.

  12. I am inspired. I plan to wake up tomorrow, grab my favorite paint brush and get to work. I have had a vanity for 2 years. I have hesitated to paint it b/c it is in beautiful coondition. I felt ashamed of myself for thinking of painting over the shiny pretty wood. However I have never-ever liked it. The curves, petite legs. old Hollywood style is fab but I could never really love the wood. And isn’t loving it the outcome we yearn for?? So–today I saw the rich wonderful shading of the torquoise and knew I deserve to love that darn vanity and stop fearing the painting of it. I am 58. We only live once. I intend to “go for it”!!!
    Thank you—Becky
