The new house…

We are working on the new house and packing up this one at the same time. We are busy but excited!
Excited to be closer to school, reorganize, and downsize.
This is the fifth house we’ve lived in in our 13 years of marriage, and I’m ready to just. park. it.

The kitchen is very nice, but we may opt to pull the stone off the island because there is a lot of stone and tile and it echoes a lot in the kitchen/family room. Adding furniture and a rug will help, but we also want the girls to saddle up to the island without having to keep bandaids on the counter. The undertones of the stone, backsplash and floor tile don’t seem to jive, either. I’ve  also been looking over samples of whites for the perfect cream cabinet color.

My brother (the best handyman in AZ, IMO) has helped Kevin tremendously by rewiring the house and pulling down the tile on the wall in the room that will be Kevin’s office.  It looks a bit scary now, but I know it’ll eventually be a great office for Kevin by retro-fitting our current office furniture in there. Mama’s got a lot of furniture painting to do.

I found this entertainment center on CL for a great price. Kevin will cut out the existing drywall niches and retrofit the cabinet to look built in. There will be some cutting and wood filling involved so I’ll have to repaint it but it should eventually work out nicely.

The backyard will be great. With school much closer to home and church equidistant, we want our 3 social girls and their friends to enjoy coming over so Mama can keep an eye on them :) S’more’s anyone? C’mon over!

The BEST part of moving here is living down the street from my family.

My sister’s wedding day is in 2 days, and we are making sure our i’s .and t’s are dotted and crossed to make her day absolutely unforgettable.

After an entire year…

We are finally moving!

So, here’s the story: we put an offer in on a home almost a year ago and after 10 long months of back and forth the banks didn’t approve the sale. We truly thought that house was “the one,” and waited with baited breath for those 10 long grueling months. A few days prior to receiving the news that the deal was over, dead, finished, my Dad (a realtor, and an amazing one at that – this man knows his stuff) introduced us to his neighbors who were going to be putting their house on the market as a short sale (which is very normal here in AZ). The night before he listed their home we got to go see it and we had our offer ready to go right away. They quickly had back up offers right after ours and we are so incredibly thankful that they accepted our first offer. That was just 2 months ago, and we are closing in 4 days! And, it’s exactly 5 doors down from my parents and two blocks from my brother and his wife. God is sooooo good. He had this whole thing planned beyond what we thought was possible. His plan is always better than ours.

I hope you’ll join me on the blog as we pack up this place and make the new house on 22nd Lane our home. We will be taking all of our built-in furniture and I have a lot of painting to do – furniture, walls, cabinets, etc.  We will have a whole new look to go along with our fresh start – I’m dreaming of cream furniture with touches of black; natural elements with topiaries and artwork, and I would LOVE some Windsor chairs in the kitchen. If you see any on CL please send them my way :) They don’t have to be in good shape as I can take care of that. I will also be changing the kitchen cabinets to cream and we’re thinking of adding some brick in there..we’ll just wait and see. I just need to get in there and then the design will all come together better in my head.

So….Stories of a-NOTHER house is on! Can’t wait to keep you up to date on our projects. It’ll be fun.
